Severe scratches from post construction cleaning caused 7000 sq. ft. of tempered glass curtain-wall to become completely scratched. The widespread glass scratches were ground out and the tempered glass curtain-wall had to be resurfaced if it was to be saved and restored. Since this was a busy hospital in Queens, NY, we were required to work nights to minimize any disruption to normal activities. The upside of performing glass restoration at night is using floodlights which shows all the scratches better than even daytime sun. Also, any haze or swirls are readily visible. The glass polishing step moves along much faster as well. This saved enormous amounts of time since nothing is missed. If there’s one thing that I dislike, it’s going back and doing touch-ups. Ask anyone who’s ever worked with me! The project was a success and a huge relief to Bovis Lend Lease. This building at LIJ Women’s Hospital is a $250 million hospital facility located on our Long Island Jewish Medical Center campus. The project consisted of a 9-story, 28,000 sq. ft. building with lots of tempered glass. Fortunately, only the main level glass curtain-wall was affected by the widespread scratching damage.
